Maternal Mental Health Program Screenings

Effective July 1, 2023, California Senate Bill (SB) 1207 requires all health plans to establish and maintain a Maternal Mental Health program that includes quality measures to encourage screening, diagnosis, treatment, and referral. This requires all providers within our network who are providing prenatal and postpartum care to effectively screen their patients for mental health conditions.

Community Care Health’s Maternal Mental Health program requires screening at least once during each pregnancy, and at least once within 12 weeks following the birth of the child. Acceptable screening methods include the Edinburgh Perinatal/Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), as well as PHQ2 and PHQ9. All members whose screening results indicate a positive identification of potential depression or other mental health conditions should be referred to Halcyon Behavioral for follow-up at 855-424-4457.

We thank you for the hard work and quality of care that you provide our members, and helping us to achieve plan-wide compliance with this measure.
